March 16, 2001 - Bruce Roe Named Vice President of Engineering, Wave7 Optics
Alpharetta, GA, March 16, 2001— Optical networking developer Wave7 Optics, Inc.
today announced that Bruce W. Roe would serve as Vice President of Engineering.
"Bruce brings to Wave7 Optics significant expertise in developing and deploying
system level products of carrier class quality. Our engineering management team
is now well poised to deliver the most reliable last mile solution in the
industry,” said Thomas Tighe, president and CEO.
With over 23 years of telecommunications experience, Roe was most recently a
member of the Executive Leadership Team at Nortel Networks, where he held
several senior positions, including Vice President and General Manager. He
managed Nortel’s IP business unit that developed and supplied core IP Routing
software technology (such as OSPF, BGP, QoS, MPLS, and IP Multicast) to over 200
customers. Previous to that Roe served on Nortel’s Advanced Technology Board,
where he aligned broad strategic objectives with R&D investment for lead
technology programs. Prior to Nortel, Roe was employed by Bell-Northern
Research.
Roe has won several awards for Innovation and Excellence from Nortel Networks,
and he received an award from the department of Industry, Science and Technology
in Canada for the design of the first widely deployed public telecommunications
speech recognition system. Roe graduated in 1976 with a BSc and in 1978 with an
MSc in Computer Science, both from University of Calgary.
He is currently a member of IEEE and has been published in the Proceedings of
the National Communications Forum.
