September 10, 2001 - Wave7 Optics Supports New FTTH Council
Alpharetta, GA, September 10, 2001— Optical networking developer Wave7 Optics,
Inc. today announced that its Chief Technical Officer, Jim Farmer, has been
elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the newly established
Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council. Wave 7 CMO, Emmanuel Vella will also
participate in the Council, serving as Vice Chairman of the Membership
Committee.
The FTTH Council was formed by 51 companies — including equipment manufacturers,
integrators and service providers — which united in an effort to promote and
accelerate the deployment of fiber-to-the-home broadband access in North
America.
“It is rare that you find a bunch of technologists and business people this
excited about anything new,” said Farmer. “We are standing at the threshold of a
wonderful new communications experience, and I’m excited to be a part of it.
Next-generation broadband could be bigger than the development of digital TV,
and our FTTH Council is poised to lead the way.”
“The FTTH Council is very fortunate to have Jim Farmer as a Board member and a
committee chair. His leadership within and knowledge of the industry will enable
our organization to advance the broadband revolution,” said Donna Keegan, FTTH
Council executive director.
Farmer holds approximately 80 patents in broadband technology. He was honored
with the 1996 National Cable Television Association Vanguard Award in Technology
and was inducted into the Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE) Hall of
Fame in 1997, and was inducted into Cable Pioneers in 1998. Former President of
the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society and current editor of its newsletter,
Farmer also serves on the program committee for the NCTA Convention, the NCTA
engineering committee, and the IEEE International Conference on Consumer
Electronics. He is a contributing editor to Communications Technology and
Communications Technology International Magazines, as well as to The Literature
Library.
