November 29, 2001 - Wave7 Optics Announces Their Last Mile Gateway Product
Series
Residential and Business Customer Premise Devices Enable Full Suite of Broadband
Services
Anaheim, CA, November 29, 2001: Wave7 Optics, Inc., today announced the
introduction of the Last Mile GatewayTM (LMG) series of customer premise devices
that provide the subscriber interfaces for the Last Mile LinkTM (LML) advanced
optical access system. The Last Mile Gateway – Modular Residential (LMG-MR) and
the Last Mile Gateway Business (LMG-B) each provide subscribers a range of
high-speed data interface options, POTS or VoIP telephony options, and optional
CATV or IP video. The LMG-B provides additional TDM connectivity through
multiple T1 options.
The Wave7 Optics LML advanced optical access system provides video (CATV and
digital, including IP streaming), high-speed data and telephony services
(IP-based or circuit-based) to subscribers with dedicated and on-demand
symmetrical data rates of up to 500 Mb/sec, all on a single fiber. The Last Mile
Link architecture is standards-based, cost-competitive with current HFC
implementations, and includes industry-leading Quality-of-Service (QoS)
mechanisms for enhanced features. The solution overcomes the high fiber counts,
limited distance range and high equipment costs of competing FTTX solutions,
such as passive optical networks (PONs).
The LMG-MR is environmentally hardened for outside plant deployment and is
designed to meet the needs of single home residential, small office/home office,
and small multi-dwelling unit subscribers. The LMG-B is rack or desk mounted and
designed to serve small and medium businesses. The T1 connectivity allows legacy
PBX systems to be maintained in addition to the full range of voice, video and
high-speed data interfaces.
“The Wave7 Last Mile Gateways are designed to allow network operators to provide
their customers with the total suite of services, while also providing industry
leading quality-of-service, security, and management mechanisms to ensure that
service guarantees can be committed and managed,” said Emmanuel Vella, Chief
Marketing Officer of Wave7 Optics. “One of the key benefits of the Last Mile
Link architecture is that it offers users the ability to serve a diverse
subscriber base via a simple, unifying architecture. Simply by deploying the
appropriate Last Mile Gateway either business or residential customers can be
served.”
