November 29, 2001 - Wave7 Optics Announces Their Last Mile Core Solution
Centerpiece of Last Mile Link Architecture Enables Cost-Effective Fiber to the
Home and Business
Anaheim, CA, November 29, 2001 — Wave7 Optics, Inc., today announced the
introduction of the Last Mile CoreTM (LMC), an integral part of the Last Mile
LinkTM (LML) advanced optical access system. The environmentally hardened LMC
provides an in-network point of optical regeneration and bandwidth management,
providing network operators reach and bandwidth flexibility not available using
competing technologies.
The Wave7 Optics LML advanced optical access system provides video (CATV and
digital, including IP streaming), high-speed data and telephony services
(IP-based or circuit-based) to subscribers with dedicated and on-demand
symmetrical data rates of up to 500 Mb/sec/subscriber, all on a single fiber.
The Last Mile Link architecture is standards-based, cost-competitive with
current HFC implementations, and includes industry-leading Quality-of-Service (QoS)
mechanisms for enhanced features. The solution overcomes the high fiber count,
limited distance range and high equipment costs of competing FTTX solutions,
such as passive optical networks (PONs).
The LMC can be located up to 70km from the provider’s hub and, by utilizing
standard Gigabit Ethernet connections from a switch router located at the hub,
the LMC can provide a bandwidth pool of up to 4Gbps to be shared across a pocket
of homes and/or businesses. This bandwidth is dynamically managed and allocated
through Wave7 Optics’ patent-pending Agile Packet NavigatorTM (APN) technology.
APN is the Wave7 Optics’ unique technology that provides network operators with
QoS attributes and Service Level Agreement control unavailable in competing
access technologies.
The LMC is designed to accommodate various EDFA configurations to enable
standard CATV services over a single fiber serving the subscribers with POTS, T1
and data services through the Last Mile GatewayTM series of customer premise
devices. The attention that Wave7 Optics paid to outside plant design
fundamentals resulted in a network that is not only easy to deploy, but also
requires a minimal amount of fiber optic cable.
“The LMC pushes an unprecedented amount of bandwidth economically deployed to a
subscriber group,” stated Emmanuel Vella, Chief Marketing Officer of Wave7
Optics. “This allows the service provider a myriad of options in differentiated
service offerings. The flexibility offered through subscriber service level
agreements and the ability to mix residential and business offerings on the same
access network infrastructure allow the provider to minimize their capital
expenditure while maximizing their return on investment. Additionally, the
scalability of the Last Mile Core, ultimately up to 40Gbps, provides the
operator the state-of-the-art optical access network today, while also
future-proofing for tomorrow. ”
About Wave7 Optics
