December 5, 2002 - Hancock Telecom to Deploy Wave7 Optics FTTH Solution
Last Mile Link System to Serve Several Thousand Homes by 2004
ALPHARETTA, GA, December, 5, 2002: Leading provider of optical access equipment
Wave7 Optics, Inc., has announced that their Last Mile LinkTM Fiber-to-the-Home
system has been selected for deployment by Hancock Telecom of Maxwell, IN, to
provide customers with voice and high-speed data services. Hancock will
initially deploy the Last Mile Link to serve new homes in a variety of
subdivisions in 2003 with plans to serve additional subdivisions through 2004.
Hancock Telecom is the first incumbent telephone company in Indiana to provide
“Fiber-to-the-Home to it’s subscribers.
“We are very pleased to have been selected by Hancock Telecom to provide voice,
data, and other IP services to residential subscribers in Maxwell,” said Tom
Tighe, CEO of Wave7 Optics. “As the incumbent provider of telephony service our
superior Quality-of-Service capabilities and carrier-grade voice delivery was
instrumental in keeping with Hancock Telecom’s commitment to provide cutting
edge voice and data delivery to its customers while meeting the highest telecom
quality standards.”
The Wave7 Optics advanced optical access system provides telephony (IP-based and
circuit-based), high-speed data, and video (analog and digital, including IP
streaming) services to subscribers with dedicated and on-demand symmetrical data
rates of up to 500 Mb/sec/subscriber. The Last Mile Link architecture is
standards-based, cost-competitive with current Hybrid Fiber Coax Networks, and
includes industry-leading Quality-of-Service (QoS) mechanisms for enhanced
features. The solution overcomes the high fiber counts, limited distance range
and high equipment costs of competing FTTX solutions, such as passive optical
networks (PONs).
“I especially like the single fiber design of the Last Mile Link System,” said
Mike McCarley, Senior Outside Plant Engineer for Hancock Telecom. “It will save
Hancock Telecom a lot of time and money in the deployment cycle.”
“Hancock Telecom is pleased to be partnering with Wave7 Optics in the deployment
of our next generation FTTH network,” said Tim Hills, CEO of Hancock Telecom.
“This FTTH deployment will result in our highest return on investment while
fulfilling our commitment to bring next generation telecommunication services to
the citizens of Maxwell, IN.”
