December 5, 2002 - Hitachi Kokusai and Wave7 Optics Alliance Delivers
Revolutionary Last Mile Access System to Japanese and Korean Markets
Strategic Partnering Offers Innovative Solutions for
Fiber-to-the-Home and Fiber-to-the-Business
Broadband Plus, Anaheim CA--12/4/02—Hitachi Kokusai Electric, Inc. and Wave7
Optics, Inc. are pleased to announce that they have formed a multi-faceted
strategic alliance whereby Hitachi Kokusai will market and sell the Wave7 Optics
Last Mile LinkTM optical access system in the Asian Market. The two companies
will also cooperate in the development of new and innovative customer premise
solutions designed to cost effectively accommodate the varying needs of
world-wide markets.
“Wave7 Optics offers the most innovative solution available today in last mile
optical access. The Last Mile LinkTM system will allow Hitachi Kokusai Electric
to offer our customers high-speed data, voice, digital or analog video, video on
IP, and TDM synchronous circuits, including T1s or E1s over a single fiber. This
alliance will provide network operators with an access architecture that is
future proof while still remaining practical to deploy today,” stated Isao
Ozaki, Chief Operating Officer of the Yagi Antenna Division of Hitachi Kokusai.
“Leveraging Hitachi Kokusai’s infrastructure and its leadership position in CATV
systems, broadcasting equipment, communication and information systems and
semiconductors with Wave7 Optics’ unique approach to standards-based IP
networking creates a truly flexible platform that supports the broadest possible
variety of advanced applications.”
The Wave7 Optics advanced optical access system provides video (analog and
digital, including IP streaming), high-speed data and telephony services
(IP-based or circuit-based) to subscribers with a bi-directional data rate of
500 Mb/sec/subscriber. The Wave7 Optics architecture overcomes the high fiber
counts, limited distance range and high equipment costs of competing FTTX
solutions, such as passive optical networks (PONs). The solution is
standards-based, cost-competitive, and includes quality-of-service
prioritization of data packets with a proprietary protocol for enhanced
features. A number of highly innovative additions to the Wave7 Optics product
suite are anticipated to come out of the Hitachi Kokusai-Wave7 Optics alliance.
“Our partnership with industry-leading Hitachi Kokusai will allow us to offer
our ground-breaking FTTX products to customers in the Asian Market which we view
as extremely strategic,” said Thomas Tighe, President and CEO of Wave7 Optics.
“Furthermore, by leveraging Hitachi Kokusai’s world class development
capabilities we will look to enhance the flexibility and cost effectiveness of
our access solution in a variety of applications.”
