June 6, 2002 - Wave7 Optics Announces Two New Last Mile Gateway Customer Premise Products

San Antonio, June 6, 2002: Wave7 Optics, Inc., today announced the introduction of the Last Mile GatewayTM- Residential (LMG-R) and Last Mile Gateway-Multi-Quad (LMG-MQ) customer premise devices that provide the subscriber interfaces for the Last Mile LinkTM (LML) advanced optical access system. The LMG-R and LMG-MQ are targeted to serve single-family dwellings and multi-dwelling units, respectively, with 10/100BASE-T high-speed data interfaces, POTS or VoIP telephony options, and CATV or IP video. The LMG-R and LMG-MQ are the latest additions to the Wave7 Optics’ family of Last Mile Gateways, which make up the customer premises portion of the Last Mile LinkTM (LML) architecture.

The Wave7 Optics LML advanced optical access system provides video (CATV and digital, including IP streaming), high-speed data and telephony services (IP-based or circuit-based) to subscribers with dedicated and on-demand symmetrical data rates of up to 500 Mb/sec, all on a single fiber. The Last Mile Link architecture is standards-based, cost-competitive with current HFC implementations, and includes industry-leading Quality-of-Service (QoS) mechanisms for enhanced features. The solution overcomes the high fiber counts, limited distance range and high equipment costs of competing FTTX solutions, such as passive optical networks (PONs). The Last Mile Link is a step forward in that it provides the ideal access architecture for all customer applications - residential, business or MDU.
