Wave7 Optics Introduces New Products to Expand the Capabilities of the Last Mile
Link Access System and Enhance the Optical Broadband Service Experience for
Homes and Businesses
PHILADELPHIA, May 12, 2003: Wave7 Optics
today introduced here at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (booth 2041) new versions of
two products in their “Last Mile Link” product family, which is rapidly becoming
the “consensus choice” for “fiber-to-the-home” networks constructed by cable
operators, telephone companies, utilities and municipalities. The Last Mile
Link is currently being deployed in 18 networks which will ultimately serve more
than 80,000 customers across the United States and internationally.
Last Mile Gateway for Business Services
The new Wave7 Optics Last Mile Gateway™
Business (LMG-B) is now available in an environmentally-hardened version to
operate across a temperature range of –40 to +60 degrees C. The LMG-B, designed
to allow network operators to leverage their existing residential infrastructure
to pursue lucrative commercial service opportunities in a cost-effective manner,
offers up to four T1/E1 ports, four broadcast CATV connections, POTS and a
4x10/100 or a 1000 BaseT connection to high-speed data via Wave7 Optics’ Last
Mile Link™ architecture.
Last Mile Core, Rack Mount
The Last Mile Core (LMC) is the foundation
of the Wave7 Optics Last Mile Link FTTX access architecture and is now available
in a rack-mounted version, in addition to strad, pole, pedestal or vault
mounting. The LMC-RM, featuring cast aluminum construction, will operate across
a temperature range of -40 to +60°C to eliminate the need for expensive
environmentally controlled structures and real estate costs.
Furthermore, as modular active components
can be shared between the LMC and the LMC-RM, the LMC-RM is ideal for
distributed deployment in “street furniture” and it extends the LMC cost-savings
advantage achieved by incorporating: shared optics, dramatically reduced fiber
counts, and a “fixed loss” optical budget design, which -more- promotes “plug
and play” connectivity. The LMC supports four video connections, giving service
providers the ability to serve up to four enterprise customers with the “triple
play” of voice, video and data services, all remotely-provisionable.
About Wave7 Optics
Wave7 Optics, Inc. is a market leader in
the fiber-to-the-home and business (FTTX) optical access market. The Last Mile
Link is an IP (Internet protocol) and Ethernet standards-based optical access
system that provides all traditional “carrier-grade” telephone services
(including fax), high-speed data (e.g., Internet service) and both analog and
digital video (including IP streaming video).
The Last Mile Link provides up to 300 times
more capacity than competing broadband systems, such as DSL or cable modem, with
customer access speeds typically ranging from 256 kbps to a maximum of 500 Mbps
“symmetrical” service, unlike typical “asymmetrical” services where download
speeds far exceed “upload” speeds.
