June 14, 2004 - Wave7 Optics Announces Fully-Automatic Configuration and Service
Provisioning of Subscriber Equipment for its “Last Mile Link” FTTP System
“Last Mile Sentinel” Version 3.1 EMS To Quicken Pace of FTTP
Deployments
ALPHARETTA, GA, June 14, 2004 – Wave7 Optics today announced that its Last Mile
Sentinel (LMS), the full-featured, standards-based element management system
supporting its Last Mile Link (LML) FTTP product line, now features complete
automatic network configuration and service provisioning capabilities.
Once an installer physically connects the subscriber’s “Last Mile Gateway” (LMG)
customer premises device to the FTTP network, the LMG automatically receives its
IP address from a DHCP server. The LMS then automatically discovers the LMG
within seconds and downloads a pre-defined configuration settings file to the
device. Upon configuration, the LMS uses the northbound flow-through
provisioning interface to signal the service provider’s billing system that the
device is ready to receive the subscriber’s pre-ordered services package.
The LMS 3.1 includes features such as:
· Fault Management – A standard SNMP trap server collects Last Mile Link alarms
and other significant event notifications. The SNMP traps are displayed, can be
filtered and sorted, and can be acknowledged or cleared from the trap log.
· Mass Provisioning – Easy-to-use mass provisioning tools automate device
configuration and software upgrades. In addition, the LMS will deliver
configuration settings to devices when they are auto-discovered in the network
and also supports a two-way northbound interface for automatic provisioning of
subscriber services from a customer’s billing office.
· Device Backup and Restore – Device backups can be scheduled on a periodic
basis.
· Device Inventory – Devices are displayed in a collapsible hierarchical graphic
of user-defined device groups. As devices are auto-discovered on the network,
they are displayed in the inventory list along with real-time status
information.
· Security – A strong user authorization and authentication process offers
access privileges to groups of users on a per function basis.
“We do not consider Element and Network Management an afterthought,” said Bruce
Roe, Wave7’s VP of Engineering. “For a long time now, FTTP deployments have been
slowed by a lack of automation in provisioning and configuring bigger and bigger
networks. Wave7 decided to invest significant resources into this area from the
very beginning and, with our constantly increasing deployment footprint, we are
proud to say that it is now paying significant dividends for our customers by
easing Wave7 network deployments and reducing the cost of FTTP ownership.”
Wave7 Optics is demonstrating the LMS and its complete LML product line at two
major telecommunications events taking place in the next two weeks: the SCTE
(Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers) Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando, June
15 – 18 (booth 1935) and the TIA/USTA (Telecommunications Industry Association /
United States Telecom Association) Supercomm 2004 in Chicago, June 20 – 24
(booth 28335).
About Wave7 Optics
Wave7 Optics, Inc. is a market leader in FTTP systems for “triple play”
services, with customers around the world in the IOC, CLEC, MSO, municipal, real
estate development and utility sectors. The company's “Last Mile Link” optical
access system effectively overcomes the deployment and operational cost barriers
that have to date stymied the deployment of optical broadband systems. Wave7’s
Last Mile Core transport and Last Mile Gateway subscriber premises products
provide advanced “carrier class” QoS and Layer 3 intelligence at the network
edge. The Last Mile Link offers service providers a particular advantage with
regards to video in that it is the only platform that supports upstream RF
return signals and readily accommodates HDTV.
