June 21, 2004 - Hitachi Telecom Chooses Wave7 Optics as a Co-Development Partner
for Hitachi’s New “Fiber-to-the-Home” Network Equipment for Worldwide Sales
CHICAGO / SUPERCOMM – June 21, 2004 -- Wave7 Optics (booth
28335) announced today that it has been chosen by Hitachi as a co-development
partner for the new Hitachi AMN1200 family of “fiber-to-the-home” (FTTH, aka
FTTP or fiber to the premises) network equipment for markets worldwide. The
AMN1200 SFU, now available, supports the full “triple play” of video, very
high-speed data and voice services and complies with the FSAN (Full Service
Access Network consortium) BPON (broadband passive optical network)
specification.
With more than 30 service provider customers worldwide, Wave7 Optics have
established themselves as a U.S. leader in the FTTH/FTTP sector and the
development of this equipment will create an opportunity to extend their market
presence. The Wave7 Optics Last Mile Link product is based on Ethernet and IP
standards. Nevertheless, Hitachi selected Wave7 to develop an optical broadband
product based on Hitachi's FSAN-compliant ATM technology. Of the FTTH standards
ratified to date by the ITU-T, FSAN is currently the most widely deployed
worldwide.
“The Wave7 Optics team has an impressive reputation for developing flexible and
cost effective optical access equipment. – especially when it comes to video
services, including IP video and HDTV,” said Frank Banks, VP Sales, Hitachi
Telecom. “We are pleased to leverage their experience in the development of the
new AMN1200 SFU product suite.”
“This agreement with Hitachi represents our market entry strategy into accounts
that prefer ATM-based equipment,” said Tom Tighe, CEO of Wave7 Optics. “To that
end, we will establish ourselves further in terms of reputation and market share
via this agreement with Hitachi, the market leader in ATM FTTH technology.”
“This looks like a classic ‘win-win’ situation for both companies,” said Michael
Kennedy, Principal of Network Strategy Partners, an industry consulting firm.
“Hitachi will benefit from Wave7’s unique ‘passive and active’ approach to FTTH
equipment and their video expertise to develop a real cutting-edge product.
Wave7 has a great chance to grow in the U.S. and internationally. Both companies
now have improved their standing vis-à-vis the major FTTH deployments planned by
the world’s largest service providers over the next few years.”
