May 23, 2005 - Wave7 Optics Addresses Critical FTTP Provisioning and Billing
Issues
ALPHARETTA, GA, May 23, 2005 – Wave7 Optics today announced
general availability of release 3.2 of its Last Mile Sentinel (LMS), a
full-featured, standards-based element management system supporting its Last
Mile Link (LML) FTTP (fiber-to-the-premises) optical broadband product line. The
LMS 3.2 gives Wave7 customers increased automation capabilities to create
flexible “Quality of Service” bandwidth packages for data services (in
increments of 64 kbs), to perform software upgrades on device discovery and to
have “flow-through” ease of billing with regards to subscriber account and
location information and reports to support billing audits.
“The LMS 3.2 features industry-leading performance and usability enhancements to
address the industry’s growing FTTP requirements,” said Emmanuel Vella, Chief
Marketing Officer of Wave7 Optics. “With a completely standards-based approach,
Wave7 helps carriers integrate FTTP into their existing NMS and OSS structures
and establishes major performance enhancements in the areas of product
installation, navigator start-up, software upgrades and database access.”
The flow-through provisioning interface is an XML over HTTP interface that is
used to connect the LMS to the LMS OSS Connector for automatic service
provisioning from an order entry or billing system. This flow-through
provisioning interface has been extended in LMS 3.2 to allow subscriber account
number and address information to automatically flow from the billing system to
the customer premises devices (“Last Mile Gateways,” or LMG). This information
can be used to populate device name, device location, and DHCP relay fields in
the device.
A wealth of optional features has been added to the already impressive
capability of the LMS. Bandwidth packages for data services allow for the easy
setup and assignment of rate packages in LMS or automatic assignment via the LMS
OSS Connector product. Bandwidth rate packages are customer defined using an
automated tool that requires very little data entry or QoS knowledge.
Furthermore, bandwidth packages can be used in an open access situation where
there are multiple data service carriers.
Based on the defined rate packages, the system determines how to set up the
quality services parameters so that the specified bandwidth is provisioned for
the subscriber's data port/s. Not only does LMS reserve this bandwidth on
service activation, it automatically releases this bandwidth when service is
deactivated.
The LMG full Audit report provides a list of all deployed LMGs and the
administrative and operational states of all ports on those devices. This report
shows current device settings and can be used as part of an audit against the
information in the customer's billing system. The LMG Summary Audit Report
provides total counts of each type of LMG and total counts for each type of port
(voice, video, data, T1) in service. These reports are produced in HTTP format
for viewing and XML format for import and use by an external OSS application.
Visitors to both Supercomm (www.supercomm2005.com) and Cable-Tec Expo in San
Antonio (http://expo.scte.org) can “test drive” the LMS and learn about all of
the LML products at the Wave7 Optics booth at each exhibition – 14058 at
Supercomm and 121 at Cable-Tec.
