September 18, 2006 - Infinity Communications and Wave7 Optics to Deploy New “Triple Play”
FTTP Network for the Cayman Islands
Atlanta, Ga. / George Town, Cayman Islands – September 18, 2006 – Infinity Communications and Wave7 Optics today announced that construction of a high-capacity FTTP (fiber to the premises) network, which will deliver a "triple play" of Internet, digital television and telephone services throughout the Cayman Islands, is now underway. The network, based on Wave7’s Trident7 Optical Access System and incorporating the industry’s most-advanced fiber optic technology, is expected to be available to more than 24,000 households on Grand Cayman by the end of 2008.
Infinity will deliver fiber-optic services to both residential and commercial customers, specifically corporate and banking firms. Infinity’s digital cable television services will include video-on-demand, high definition TV, pay-per-view and advertising programming. Internet data services will include ultra high-speed data internet access with available speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second (Mbs). Enhanced internet data services include website hosting, virtual private networks, video conferencing and interactive gaming. Infinity’s digital voice services will offer both local and international calling capability with unlimited calling plans, providing customers with unprecedented call quality and value.
"We believe that Wave7’s FTTP technology will create a vibrant communications network that will be well received by the community," said Brian Louwerse, Director of Marketing for Infinity Communications. "Utilizing our bundled suite of products and services, Infinity will institute an aggressive marketing plan to quickly gain market share. Over time, homes will look to Infinity to fulfill every entertainment and communication need through a single fiber connection. Infinity is not only an investment in the future of technology, but an investment into the future of entertainment and business services in the Cayman Islands."
"Infinity Communications is a progressive operator which performed an exhaustive search for the best access network technology to serve their customers," said Emmanuel Vella, Chief Marketing Officer of Wave7 Optics. "The Trident7’s ability to deliver standards-based EPON and GPON technologies in the same platform allows service providers to cost-effectively deliver a much broader array of services, as compared to their competitors utilizing other access network technologies."
Among other competitive advantages, Wave7’s customer premise devices have the ability to transport traditional RF Return signaling from the home to the CATV headend using Wave7’s single fiber optical access system. This enables residential customers to have access to interactive services like Pay-Per-View (PPV) and Video-On-Demand (VOD) without the need of a separate cable plant, POTS telephone return, or an upgrade to an IP STB.
Wave7 Optics is exhibiting the complete LML and Trident7 product lines at the FTTH Council Conference in Las Vegas, October 2 -- 5, at The Venetian Resort (booth 121). In addition, Wave7 Optics CTO, Jim Farmer, is participating in the panel discussion and presentation, "FTTH Success Stories – Municipal Networks," on October 3rd, 11 am – 12 pm and is giving a paper, "Optical Considerations in FTTH Networks," on October 4th, 10:30 – 11:00 am.
Stephen Thomas, Chief Architect for Wave7 Optics, will present his paper, "OAM&P in Passive Optical Networks," on October 4th, 1:45 – 2:15 pm.
