September 24, 2007 - Orlando Business Telephone Systems Selects Wave7 Optics for New FTTP Networks Serving Multiple Housing Developments in the Orlando Area
ATLANTA – September 24, 2007 - Wave7 Optics, a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home and -premises (FTTH/FTTP) broadband network equipment for residential and business services, is announcing next week at the Fiber to the Home Council Conference and Expo in Orlando the installation of new FTTH networks in the Orlando area for Orlando Business Telephone Services (OBTS) and its sister company Orlando Telephone Company (OTC).
OBTS and OTC are active throughout the state of Florida and service more than 14,000 access lines in the Orlando area. They offer “triple play” services and target residential customers in apartment complexes and new single-family home developments, as well as large and small business customers, with an emphasis on the hospitality industry.
For this project, OBTS and OTC have selected the Trident7™ Universal Access Platform, deployed in its EPON (IEEE 802.3ah EFM standard) FTTP configuration, to connect initially more than 1600 homes and apartments. The Trident7 is the industry’s only FTTP platform capable of delivering standards-based GPON, EPON and Point-to-Point technologies simultaneously from a common platform. OBTS and OTC have deployed two Trident7 “OLTs” (optical line terminals) in two separate central office facilities, where they are integrating them with VOIP switching equipment from Mitel and routers from Cisco.
“We selected the Trident7 for, among other reasons, its simplicity of use and its flexibility to support both RF and IP video,” said John Fisher, President of OBTS. “We’re already initiating services via these new networks and our customers will welcome the triple play service packages.”
“We are thrilled to be working with OBTS, which shows again how the Trident7 is gaining traction in both the U.S. and internationally,” said Emmanuel Vella, CMO of Wave7 Optics. “Now that we also support GPON standard networks via the Trident7 platform, we expect customer interest to continue to escalate”
Wave7 Optics is exhibiting the complete Trident7 product line at the 2007 FTTH Council Conference & Expo in Orlando, September 30 – October 4, in Booth 213.
