Press Release

September 11, 2007 - Wave7 Optics to Provide PON Solution for New FTTP Network Serving Enterprise Customers in 86 Municipalities Around Paris

ATLANTA / PARIS – September 11, 2007 - Wave7 Optics, a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) equipment for residential and business services, and SPIE Communications, a leading company delivering telecom and IT solutions and services, today announced that the Trident7™ Optical Access Platform has been selected for a new municipal network called SEQUANTIC, which is slated to begin service in October 2007.

This new point-to-multipoint network is a project initiated by the SIPPEREC public consortium, which represents the electricity and telecommunications interests of approximately 1.7 million residential, commercial and industrial customers located in 86 municipalities around Paris (see map below).

Reaching at least one business area in each municipality within the SIPPEREC members’ territory, SEQUANTIC will provide very high speed external and internal connectivity to all buildings in more than 147 business areas, which together comprise more than 6500 enterprises. It will be the first public based Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU) open-access network dedicated to business areas in the Paris region.

ID-RESO, the company created to manage the SEQUANTIC network, will deploy a Trident7 OLT solution configured for the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) EPON standard. Trident7 is the industry’s only FTTP platform capable of delivering standards-based EPON and GPON technologies simultaneously from one chassis, thereby allowing service providers to cost-effectively deliver a much broader array of services than competing platforms. A typical SEQUANTIC business service package will provide symmetric and guaranteed data services of up to 1 Gbps via the Trident7 platform.

SPIE Communications will provide delivery, implementation, support and maintenance services for the Trident7 solution.

"This project is very complementary to all the other networks that SIPPEREC has developed over the past six years," said Jacques Poulet, President of SIPPEREC and Mayor of Villetaneuse. "It will complement the very high speed connectivity available in SIPPEREC’s territory by enabling symmetrical bandwidth of 1 Gbps at competitive pricing."

Regarding his choice of EPON standards-based technology, Jacques Poulet continued: "PON technology is the best solution for very high speed networks due to its huge transport capacity and optimized fiber infrastructure. For SIPPEREC, the PON solution is completely compatible with the economic plans of Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SME) in suburban areas. PON networks are flexible and open and respect the criteria for transparency established by European directives. With a low entry cost, the Trident7 PON solution will enable local service providers to offer new services and innovative applications."

Wave7 Optics’ Trident7 solution allows multiple service providers and network operators to deliver a variety of services without interfering with one another, while utilizing standard interfaces. Each service provider retains individual control of user Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA), as well as Quality of Service (QoS) and bandwidth management. Furthermore, the Trident7 solution allows delivery of services to each operator’s own end-user equipment.

"We are very excited to be chosen for this highly visible FTTU project serving such a large area around Paris," said Thomas Tighe, President and CEO of Wave7 Optics. "The Trident7’s advanced feature set, ease of operation and network scalability make it an excellent choice for the SIPPEREC SEQUANTIC network."
